Summer recipe for your skin

I am writing mid-way through summer when the heat is peaking and here in the New England humidity we perspire just by blinking.  Most of us know that when our body dehydrates we need to replenish lost minerals and salts—think Gatorade™ and the plethora of sports drinks on the market.  But what we often fail to understand is that our skin also looses vital elements when we sweat and only 15% of what we put on our mouth ever directly makes it to the surface of our skin.

Demineralized skin develops lines more easily, is prone to rashes & irritations and tends to flatten.  Besides the use of good quality moisturizers that help restock these losses (like my Glow serum), here is a simple recipe you can make at home that will replenish some of the lost elements while reducing irritation and cooling the skin down to prevent capillary damage.

In a 2 cup measuring cup place:

  • one silver dime, washed
  • one copper penny, washed
  • one chamomile tea bag
  • one peppermint tea bag

Pour over this 2 cups of boiling water.  When water is cool, remove bags and coins and stir in:

  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp oat flour or colloidal oatmeal

Refrigerate this and use as a cold compress saturating a cotton wash cloth when skin is overheated.  Keeps up to two weeks in the refrigerator.

NOTE: Trace amounts of copper and silver from the coins are released in the boiling water. Both of these elements are noted for their ability to heal & stimulate tissue regeneration, are anti-bacterial and therefore anti-aging.
